Role Description The Payroll Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Indianapolis, IN, responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for district employees. This role includes preparing and reviewing payroll data, maintaining payroll records, and coordinating with Human Resources and Finance to support compensation changes, benefits deductions, and timekeeping accuracy. The Payroll Specialist will process garnishments, manage payroll tax calculations and reporting, and work with external payroll services or systems as needed. Daily tasks also involve responding to employee payroll inquiries, resolving discrepancies, and assisting with audits and compliance reporting. The role requires strict attention to detail, adherence to district policies and regulatory requirements, and a commitment to confidentiality and customer-focused service.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in Payroll Administration and Payroll Processing to manage end-to-end payroll cycles accurately and efficiently.
- Experience handling Garnishments, including proper setup, tracking, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of Payroll Taxes, including calculations, reporting, and adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
- Familiarity with Payroll Services and payroll systems or software to support automation, reporting, and process improvements.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to support staff and collaborate with HR, Finance, and school administrators.
- Proficiency in Excel and other office productivity tools; experience with school district or public sector payroll is a plus.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
