Siemens TIA Portal Controls and Automation Electrical Engineer
Location: Florence, AL — Relocation Available
Salary Range: $100,000–$110,000 5% Annual Bonus

Summary
MS Companies is seeking an experienced Siemens TIA Portal Controls and Automation Electrical Engineer to serve as the primary controls and automation resource for a high-volume manufacturing operation producing residential and commercial building wire, armored cables, and service-related electrical products in Florence, Alabama.
This is a highly hands-on engineering position supporting a 24/7 industrial manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will spend 70% of their time on the manufacturing floor troubleshooting production equipment, programming Siemens PLCs, commissioning automation systems, and implementing controls improvements.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, 3 years of hands-on controls and automation experience in manufacturing, and direct Siemens TIA Portal PLC programming experience. This position requires someone who can work independently, troubleshoot equipment downtime, modify PLC logic, and partner directly with maintenance and production teams.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on controls and automation engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Direct Siemens TIA Portal PLC programming experience required.
- Experience writing, modifying, debugging, and troubleshooting Siemens PLC programs.
- Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment, HMIs, and industrial control systems.
- Ability to independently diagnose controls-related equipment failures and modify PLC logic to restore production.
- Industrial automation experience involving PLCs, HMIs, electrical controls, and automated manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to work independently as the primary/sole controls and automation resource.
- Willingness to spend 70% of the workday on the manufacturing floor.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-volume industrial manufacturing environment.
Preferred Skills
- AutoCAD experience involving electrical schematics and control panel design.
- Industrial power distribution experience.
- SAP or comparable ERP experience.
- Project management experience or PMP certification.
- Experience commissioning new manufacturing equipment or major controls upgrades.
- Continuous improvement experience involving controls, automation, equipment reliability, productivity, or process improvement.
- Experience with electrical control panels, instrumentation, sensors, drives, and industrial control systems.
- Experience working directly with maintenance technicians and production operators.
Day-to-Day
- Serve as the plant’s primary Siemens TIA Portal PLC programming and controls expert.
- Develop, modify, debug, and troubleshoot Siemens PLC programs.
- Troubleshoot Siemens PLCs, HMIs, and automated control systems to minimize production downtime.
- Diagnose controls-related equipment failures and implement corrective programming solutions.
- Commission new and modified automation and manufacturing equipment.
- Partner directly with maintenance technicians and production operators to resolve equipment issues.
- Lead controls and automation continuous-improvement projects.
- Manage controls projects from troubleshooting and design through implementation and commissioning.
- Maintain electrical schematics, controls documentation, and automation system records.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, productivity, safety, and process efficiency.
- Support electrical and controls upgrades to manufacturing equipment and production processes.
- Provide technical controls and automation guidance to plant leadership and maintenance personnel.
Schedule
Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Flexibility is required for occasional extended hours when production needs or critical equipment issues require engineering support. Minimal travel is expected.
