Tool Maintenance Technician

DEPARTMENT: Engineering Solutions

REPORTS TO: Toolroom Manager

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for preventative maintenance, changeover, and unscheduled tool repair of tooling used in injection molding.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work safely at all times including proper LOTO of machines and proper use of PPE
• Maintain 5S and participate in continuous improvement efforts
• Assemble/disassemble mold components including cores, cavities, base plates, sliders, lifters, and ejector systems according to engineering specifications and drawings.
• Perform mold repairs, including but not limited to parting line (flash) repair, welding, hot runner repairs, elector system repairs, and complete mold refurbishments, etc.
• Verify clearances, alignment, and operation of moving parts in assembles molds.
• Record keeping: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, including work orders, work order requests, and parts inventory.
• Ensure conformance to specifications utilizing CMM, height gauges, micrometers, and other precision measuring devices to adjust tools, to produce drawing specified dimensions, and ensure overall quality.
• Responsible for following all safety rules and regulations and all procedures
• Responsible to repair, rebuild or overhaul all types of production, service equipment and machine parts in all production areas and replacement for various production equipment
• Filling out necessary paperwork properly and in a timely fashion
• Be REULTS oriented using visual KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators)
• Be multi-skilled to support team members as needed
• Develop and follow the standardized work instructions to minimize machine downtime
• Seek out assistance from department supervisor/ manager/ team leaders as required
• Support and participate in continuous improvement efforts
• Be a good listener and understand issues before coming up with solutions (root cause analysis)

REQUIRED SKILLS / ATTITUDES:

• Strong organizational skills, the ability to perform under pressure and management of multiple priorities with competing demands for resources.
• Manufacturing industry background.
• Technical Skills: Strong understanding of engineering drawings pertaining to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems related to injection molding molds.
• Inspection experience and ability to use precision measuring devices for overall quality.
• Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to diagnose and solve problems effectively and efficiently. Ability to read mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagrams.
• Record Keeping Skills: Ability to maintain accurate records of maintenance activities. Computer skills required: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and the ability to enter records in an ERP maintenance program.
• Position requires ability to work overtime as needed to complete job.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma of GED
• Able to drive forklift equipment
• Able to use hand tools and do light machining
• Have a mechanical ability
• Knowledge of molding operations a plus
• Equivalent combined education and experience will be considered
