We are seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer with experience in transit and infrastructure design to support major capital projects for Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) agencies including NYCT, LIRR, and Metro-North.
This is a 100% design-focused role supporting mechanical system design for stations, tunnels, substations, and ancillary transit facilities. The ideal candidate will have strong technical capabilities, experience working within MTA standards, and the ability to independently produce and coordinate design packages.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform mechanical design for transit infrastructure projects, including:
o HVAC systems (ventilation plants, tunnel ventilation, station cooling/heating)
o Platforms, Equipment rooms, substations, and ancillary facilities
· Develop design drawings, calculations, and specifications in accordance with MTA standards and codes
· Prepare documents, reports, and engineering studies
· Coordinate with electrical, plumbing, fire protection, communications, and structural disciplines
· Participate in design coordination meetings with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams
· Support design-build and design-bid-build project delivery
· Conduct field investigations, site surveys, and condition assessments
· Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs during construction support (limited; design-focused role)
· Ensure compliance with:
o NYC Building Code and applicable codes
o NFPA standards
o MTA design criteria and specifications

Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
· 4–8 years of experience in mechanical design (MEP / transit / infrastructure preferred)
· Experience with MicroStation. Ability to draft work.
· Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and mechanical design principles
· Experience with software and preparing design calculations, plans, and specifications
· Ability to work independently and manage assigned design tasks
· Ability to work nights occasionally.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with MTA agencies (NYCT, LIRR, Metro-North)
· Familiarity with transit-specific systems (tunnel ventilation, fan plants, emergency ventilation)
· EIT certification preferred; PE license or on track preferred
· Experience with MicroStation (Bentley) for MTA projects
Salary : $90,000 - $140,000
