What are the responsibilities and job description for the Weld Engineer position at Movement Search & Delivery?
Movement Search and Delivery is working with a premier manufacturer in the Greater Charlotte North Carolina area to identify and evaluate a Weld Manufacturing Engineer
About the Role: This fully onsite role is central to process stability, quality, throughput, and cost in a high-volume welding environment. You will own laser and robotic welding processes from daily floor support through new program launch, keeping cells running and meeting customer and IATF 16949 requirements. The work is hands-on and fast-paced—troubleshooting at the cell one hour and driving launch deliverables the next. If you bring welding and automation expertise plus a bias for continuous improvement, this is a high-impact seat.
What You Will Do:
- Develop, implement, and optimize laser welding processes for high-volume production
- Troubleshoot weld issues on the floor to minimize downtime and protect throughput
- Establish and maintain process parameters, work instructions, and standardized operating procedures
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for weld defects, quality issues, and equipment failures
- Support new product launches, including process design, equipment validation, APQP, PFMEA, and control plans
- Use scrap, rework, downtime, cycle time, and OEE data to improve efficiency; support new equipment, tooling, automation, and operator/technician training
What You Need to Succeed:
- Bachelor’s in Welding, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 1–2 years in welding or manufacturing engineering in an automotive or high-volume production environment, including production support and program launches
- Hands-on experience with robotic welding systems (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, or similar) and PLC-controlled automated lines
- Knowledge of weld quality standards, inspection and NDT methods, metallurgy, joint design, and fixture/tooling concepts
- Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, and structured problem-solving (8D, 5 Why, Fishbone); laser welding and Inventor/Creo experience preferred
