Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Elementary Special Education Paraprofessional to join our vibrant educational team. In this role, you will provide essential classroom support to students with diverse learning needs, including those with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and other special education requirements. Your enthusiasm and commitment will help foster an inclusive, nurturing environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. You will work closely with teachers, specialists, and families to implement individualized education programs (IEPs) and support students’ unique learning journeys.
Duties
- Assist classroom teachers in implementing lesson plans across subjects such as literacy, math, and curriculum development tailored for students with special needs
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with disabilities, including those requiring behavioral management and physical assistance
- Support students’ social-emotional development through positive behavior management strategies aligned with best practices in special education
- Help maintain a safe and organized classroom environment by managing classroom routines, transitions, and behavior support strategies
- Collaborate regularly with teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other professionals to develop and implement individualized plans such as IEPs
- Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and adapt curriculum content to meet diverse learning styles and developmental levels
- Support early childhood education principles and Montessori or preschool methodologies when applicable
- Handle confidential information responsibly while maintaining student privacy in accordance with legal standards such as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
Experience
- Prior classroom experience supporting students with disabilities or special education needs is highly preferred
- Experience working with children across early childhood stages, including preschool or toddler care settings
- Knowledge of childhood development theories and practices related to special education, autism spectrum disorders, behavioral disorders, and deaf education
- Demonstrated ability to manage classroom behavior effectively through positive reinforcement techniques
- Familiarity with curriculum planning for literacy education, basic math skills, and social-emotional learning strategies
- Experience working in private or public school environments supporting children with diverse learning requirements
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with educators, parents, and specialists; proficiency in writing reports and documentation for IEPs is a plus
