JOB SUMMARY:

Provide classroom, targeted instruction for students in language arts, math and science.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge of: specific curriculum content for subject area. 

 

Skilled in: lesson plan development, implementation of learning activities, behavior management, assessment, and teaching to individual student skill levels. 

 

Ability to: Demonstrated ability in classroom organization and behavior management; communicate orally and in writing and build relationships with students, parents, and staff.  Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and parents preferred.

 

Understanding of: Cultural and social issues affecting diverse students and their families, and students and families experiencing poverty.

 

Experience:  Successful experience teaching middle school students.

 

Education:  Completion of a higher education Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in education/ teaching license valid for 6-8th grades with an English Language Arts, Math or Reading endorsement.

 

Certification Required:  A valid teaching license issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission with proper 6-8th grades with a English Language Arts, Math, Science or Reading endorsement.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times as designated.
  2. Plan a program of study that meets the interests, needs, and abilities of the students and follow established curriculum as written by the district and the state.
  3. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  4. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisor.
  5. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent within the limitations of the location and resources provided by the district.
  6. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of the students.
  7. Cooperate with other members of the staff.
  8. Attend staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  9. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules of the school and district.
  10. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintain such records as required by law and district policy.
  11. Take all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  12. Analyze student performance test results and create strategies to support students.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

Language SkillsAbility to read English and comprehend complex technical language.  Ability to write memoranda, correspondence, lessons plans, reports, and student achievement summaries in English.  Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations.

 

Mathematical SkillsAbility to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy. 

 

Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written, or oral instructions in English.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Other Skills and AbilitiesAbility to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents, and community.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

Works in a school environment.  Able to use a telephone, operate a computer, and use other office equipment.  Able to drive to other program sites and meetings.

 

CLASSIFICATION:                    

Licensed, temporary summer position, Location Mountain View Middle School. ONLY INTERNAL CANDIDATES NEED APPLY.

 

WORK DAYS/HOURS:

August 3, 2026 through August 20, 2026; Monday through Thursday student facing, plus 1 professional development/prep day.

 

ALL DATES, HOURS AND EMPLOYMENT CONTINGENT ON ENROLLMENT AND GRANT FUNDING.

 

SALARY:                    

Paid by timesheet at the per diem rate of the 2026-2027 Licensed Salary Schedule. Salary range $52,339 - $107,622.
