JOB SUMMARY
The C-Store Clerk is typically the first point of contact for Mountain View Co-op (MVC) customers. This position is responsible for delivering excellent customer service, accurately processing transactions, and supporting daily store operations in a safe, compliant, and customer-focused environment. The Clerk must maintain a positive and cooperative attitude that promotes teamwork, integrity, honesty, and helpfulness while representing MVC’s culture and values.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Location Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are considered essential functions of this position. Employees must be able to perform these essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Provide a positive customer experience through professional and courteous interactions with customers, clients, and vendors
- Handle customer inquiries and complaints promptly and professionally, escalating as needed
- Accurately operate the Point of Sale (POS) system and maintain proper cash control procedures
- Follow MVC’s credit and cash handling policies
- Ensure the store is properly stocked, merchandised, and faced
- Rotate and monitor perishable products in accordance with food safety standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store, including sales floor and work areas
- Understand and promote current promotions and specials, and suggest related products to customers
- Inform customers of applicable product handling and safety procedures
- Assist in facility and equipment maintenance as needed
- Ensure accuracy of transactions and assist with resolving system or balancing discrepancies (including Epicor/Triple E systems)
- Follow all workplace safety practices and promptly report any safety concerns or incidents
- Safely handle and work in proximity to flammable materials (diesel fuel, gasoline, kerosene, propane) and hazardous chemicals (e.g., herbicides and agricultural products) in accordance with company policy and applicable regulations
- Comply with all MVC policies, procedures, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Basic math and cash handling

- Basic computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, POS systems)

- Maintain reliability, punctuality, and attendance expectations
- Work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional lone shifts
- Work in a fast-paced retail environment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
Experience:
- Prior customer service or retail experience preferred
Certifications:
- Forklift Certification or ability to obtain preferred

Physical Requirements:

Working Conditions:
- Work is performed primarily in a retail environment
- Duties may require working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to low to moderate noise levels
- Exposure to fuels, chemicals, and other hazardous materials
Employees are required to follow all company safety procedures, OSHA guidelines, and applicable regulations when performing job duties.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
- This position is subject to MVC’s probationary period, as defined in company policy
- During the probationary period, employment may be terminated by either the employee or MVC for any lawful reason
- Employment may be contingent upon successful completion of background screening and/or drug testing, if applicable and in accordance with law
