POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
General Duties:
The medical scribe is responsible for assisting, at the elbow or virtually, medical providers with chart documentation and finalizing of encounters. The medical scribe is responsible for real-time documentation of patient-physician encounters. The medical scribe must have a good rapport with providers, adequate knowledge of billing, coding, medical terminology, medical abbreviations, and overall documentation skills. Must demonstrate excellent communication skills.
Specific Duties
- Gathers and documents information about the patient’s visit into the electronic health record.
- Monitors test results and notifies provider accordingly.
- Assist in managing the flow of patients within the clinic setting.
- Updates patient details (e.g. history, demographics, physical exam, etc.) as applicable.
- Works in harmony with clinic staff, patients, and visitors by exhibiting a positive attitude and a commitment to MCHC’s mission, vision, and values.
- Understands organizational goals and performs job duties in a manner consistent with those goals.
- Participates in departmental and organization-wide Performance Improvement activities.
- Participates in all staff educational and in-service training programs.
- Assists in the orientation, training, and instruction of new employees.
- Follows, at all times, established organizational safety/security-related policies and procedures, federal OSHA guidelines, and emergency management plans.
- Demonstrates acceptable professional conduct, interpersonal and communications skills with patients, peers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintains professional appearance and follows established dress code.
- Maintains patient and staff confidentiality.
- Demonstrates reliability and dependability in meeting work schedules, the fulfillment of responsibilities and commitments, in daily attendance, punctuality, productivity, and efficiency.
- Maintains awareness of new information applicable to the position’s duties and responsibilities (e.g., policies, meeting minutes, procedures, memoranda, protocols etc.).
