Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled 5-Axis CNC Mill Machinist who can set up and run tight-tolerance components. In this role, you will be responsible for taking raw stock and documentation and executing the job independently. Mastercam programming is not required for this role. However, you must be fully capable of making critical program and offset adjustments directly at the machine controllers (Fanuc/Doosan, Hurco, and Brother). You will also manage the qualification of first-article parts through our dedicated quality lab to ensure 100% blueprint compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Setup & Operation: Independently set up and operate 5-axis CNC milling machines for prototyping and short-run production under minimal supervision.
- Controller Editing: Read and interpret G-code/M-code. Make program edits, speed/feed adjustments, and tool offsets directly at the machine controller to optimize part quality and tool life.
- Quality & First Article Inspection: Perform in-process inspections using standard metrology equipment (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges). Successfully run and submit first articles to our quality lab for formal qualification.
- Compliance & ITAR: Maintain strict adherence to AS9100 quality management standards and ITAR regulations regarding data security and manufacturing protocols.
- Shop Excellence: Maintain a clean, organized work area (5S practices) and perform daily preventative maintenance on machinery.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 3 years of experience setting up and operating 5-axis CNC mills in a high-precision, low-volume, or prototype environment.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in reading blueprints, engineering drawings, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Control Familiarity: Proven capability to safely edit code and adjust tool offsets at the machine controller. Experience with Fanuc (Doosan), Hurco, or Brother controllers is strongly preferred.
- Citizenship Requirement: Due to ITAR compliance and defense-related contracts, the candidate must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card holder).
- Soft Skills: A self-starter mindset with the ability to problem-solve machining strategies independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working in an AS9100 certified facility.
- Experience machining complex geometries and exotic aerospace alloys (Titanium, Inconel, Stainless Steel, etc.).
