Job Description
Mount Yonah Medical Billing is a growing 3rd party billing company specializing in substance abuse and mental health billing. We are looking for dedicated individuals to join our team! We are located in Atlanta, GA (Dunwoody/ Doraville).
The Assistant Lead – Medical Collections supports the Collections Lead in overseeing the daily operations of the Medical Collections team. This role assists with training, monitoring productivity, resolving escalated account issues, and ensuring timely follow-up on outstanding insurance and patient balances. The Assistant Lead serves as a subject matter expert and helps maintain high-quality performance while ensuring compliance with payer guidelines and company policies.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist the Collections Lead with managing the day-to-day workflow of the Collections team.
- Monitor employee productivity and ensure daily work queues are completed.
- Perform insurance follow-up on commercial, and managed care claims.
- Work denied, rejected, underpaid, and unpaid claims to maximize reimbursement.
- Research payer policies and identify trends affecting collections.
- Submit reconsiderations, corrected claims, as necessary.
- Review aging reports and prioritize accounts requiring immediate attention.
- Assist with assigning work queues and balancing workloads among team members.
- Provide guidance and support to Collection Specialists regarding payer requirements and account resolution.
- Train new employees and provide ongoing coaching to existing staff.
- Perform quality audits of team members' work and provide constructive feedback.
- Escalate payer issues and reimbursement trends to management.
- Assist with developing and updating department workflows and standard operating procedures.
- Monitor:
- Accounts Receivable (A/R)
- Aging
- Productivity
- Timely Follow-Up
- Collaborate with Billing, Appeals, Payment Posting, , and other Revenue Cycle departments to resolve claim issues.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and protect patient confidentiality.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of medical collections experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of leadership or mentoring experience preferred.
- Experience with behavioral health billing is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of insurance regulations, medical terminology, CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding.
- Strong understanding of commercial, Medicare, and managed care reimbursement.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) and medical billing software.
