General Statement of Duties:

Working collaboratively with the Director, Assistant Director, faculty, students, and community partners, the Assistant Coordinator develops and sustains partnerships that expand opportunities for service learning, internships, volunteerism, civic engagement, and experiential learning. The position coordinates community-based learning experiences, supports students throughout the placement process, and serves as a primary liaison between the College and community organizations.

Responsibilities:

In support of community engagement initiatives through the Brewer Center for Civic Learning & Community Engagement, the Assistant Coordinator of Community Engagement will:

  • Community Partnership Development
    • Collaborate with the Assistant Director and Director to cultivate, strengthen, and sustain partnerships with nonprofit organizations, government agencies, schools, municipalities, and community organizations.
    • Conduct outreach to prospective community partners to identify organizational needs and develop new service learning, internship, volunteer, civic engagement, and experiential learning opportunities for students.
    • Meet regularly with community organizations through site visits, meetings, and ongoing communication to assess organizational capacity, identify student engagement opportunities, strengthen partnerships, and support continuous collaboration.
    • Maintain and regularly update the College's community engagement and experiential learning platform(s) (e.g., Handshake, iConnect, or similar systems) by verifying community partner information, placement opportunities, organizational capacity, contact information, and available volunteer, internship, service learning, and experiential learning opportunities to ensure students and faculty have access to current, accurate, and high-quality engagement opportunities.
    • Serve as the Brewer Center's primary liaison with community partners by maintaining regular communication before, during, and after student placements, while collaborating with the Assistant Director and Director regarding partnership priorities and initiatives.
  • Student Placement & Community Engagement
    • Meet individually with students to assess their interests, career goals, academic objectives, skills, and desired professional experiences.
    • Coordinate volunteer, service learning, internship, and experiential learning placements by matching students with community organizations, facilitating introductions and interviews, and managing placement logistics.
    • Maintain regular communication with students and community partners throughout placements to provide support, address concerns, and facilitate successful experiences.
    • Collect feedback from students and community partners to support continuous improvement of community-based learning experiences.
  • Faculty & Academic Collaboration
    • Collaborate with faculty, the Director, and Assistant Director to develop and coordinate community partnerships that support service learning, internships, volunteerism, civic engagement, and other experiential learning opportunities aligned with academic programs and course objectives.
    • Provide logistical and administrative support for faculty-led experiential learning initiatives, including coordinating student placements, community partner communications, and placement logistics.
    • Serve as a resource to faculty, students, and community partners by facilitating communication, addressing questions, and supporting successful community-based learning experiences.
  • Community Engagement Programming
    • Collaborate with the Assistant Director and Director to implement signature Brewer Center programs, initiatives, and community engagement events.
    • Coordinate logistics for community engagement programs and events, including nonprofit networking events, volunteer fairs, community partner orientations, Days of Service, civic engagement workshops, trainings, and recognition events.
    • Assist with volunteer recruitment, event coordination, participant communication, and day-of-event operations.
    • Support the Director and Assistant Director with community-facing programs, initiatives, and special projects as assigned.
  • Communications & Outreach
    • Collaborate with the Assistant Director and Director to develop and publish social media content highlighting Brewer Center initiatives, student engagement, community partnerships, and community impact.
    • Capture stories, photographs, testimonials, and other content that promotes civic engagement opportunities and celebrates student and community achievements.
    • Assist with developing promotional materials, newsletters, and community communications supporting Brewer Center programming.
  • Assessment & Relationship Management
    • Maintain records of community partnerships, placement opportunities, student participation, and community engagement activities.
    • Conduct ongoing reviews of community partner records and opportunity listings to remove outdated opportunities, update organizational information, identify emerging community needs, and ensure the accuracy and quality of community engagement databases and partnership records.
    • Collect participation data, placement outcomes, and community partner feedback to support departmental assessment and continuous improvement efforts.
    • Assist the Assistant Director, Director, and other appropriate college offices with documenting program outcomes, preparing reports, and maintaining accurate records.
    • Support efforts to strengthen long-term community partnerships through ongoing communication, relationship maintenance, and documentation.
  • Administrative Support
    • Assist with office operations including calendars, correspondence, scheduling, supplies, and event logistics.
    • Maintain placement documentation, required forms, and community partner records.
    • Participate in departmental planning meetings, committee work, professional development activities, and perform other related duties as assigned in support of the mission of the Brewer Center for Civic Learning & Community Engagement.



Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible professional experience in community engagement, student affairs, nonprofit organizations, experiential learning, or related fields.
  • One year of professional experience in community engagement, volunteer management, experiential learning, internship coordination, nonprofit administration, workforce development, student affairs, or a related field. Relevant internships, graduate assistantships, AmeriCorps service, or equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with students, community organizations, external stakeholders, and faculty.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience developing partnerships with nonprofit organizations, government agencies, educational institutions, or community organizations.
  • Experience recruiting, interviewing, advising, or placing students, volunteers, or interns.
  • Knowledge of service learning, internships, experiential learning, civic engagement, or volunteer management.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
  • Ability to build collaborative partnerships across organizations.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, data management software, Canva, and Google Suite.
  • Experience using career services, internship, volunteer management, customer relationship management (CRM), or community engagement platforms (e.g., Handshake, iConnect, GivePulse, or similar systems).

Actual Salary determined by education, experience, and any applicable grant limitations per the collective bargaining agreement. Applicants should be aware it is unlikely the salary will be at or near the top of the range.
