Student Leaders in Civic Engagement (Pool)

General Statement of Duties:

Student Leaders in Civic Engagement (SLiCE) help activate civic engagement on campus while developing their own leadership skills, professional experience, and social impact mindset. SLiCE co-create opportunities for students to learn about real issues, get involved in community service, participate in democracy, and contribute to positive change - at MWCC and in North Central Massachusetts. This role is both student development and civic impact: SLiCE lead projects that matter while growing as leaders.

Responsibilities:

SLiCE are part of a high-impact student employment team. Duties include:

• Plan, promote, and support civic learning events, volunteer opportunities, and community engagement experiences.
• Recruit and welcome new student volunteers into civic & community opportunities.
• Table on campus, present to classes, and spread awareness about issues & opportunities.
• Support voter engagement initiatives and civic participation campaigns.
• Assist with dialogues across differences (set-up, promotion, facilitation support, etc.).
• Help community partners connect opportunities to MWCC students.
• Use & champion the current service-hour logging platform (posting opportunities, helping peers log hours, supporting tracking/evaluation).
• Attend ~bi-weekly team meetings, trainings, and/or professional development sessions.
• Participate in ongoing goal-setting, reflection, and workforce skill development.
• Other duties as assigned that support the mission of the Brewer Center and the college.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be an enrolled MWCC student and have completed at least one semester; or a recent graduate (within 1 year);
• Have strong interest in civic engagement, community service, social impact, OR making a difference in the world;
• Positive attitude, curiosity, willingness to learn, and desire to grow as a leader;
• Reliable communication, ability to follow through on commitments, and respectful team collaboration;
• Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5;
• Be able to commit to 10 hours a week;
• Be able to commit to a week-long training in August;
• Commit from August - June.

Desired Qualifications:

• Must maintain a 3.0 GPA.
• Be able to commit to 15 hours a week.

Salary: $16.00-$18.00 per hour
Hours per Week: up to 18
