TITLE: Facilitator, Special Education (Teacher)
CLASSIFICATION: Certified Position
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Assistant Superintendent of Special Education &
Student Support Services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold a valid Indiana Teaching license in Special Education.
- At least 3 or more years of experience teaching in special education is required.
- Special Education Multi-Certification preferred.
- Experience in a leadership role is preferred.
- Knowledgeable about Article 7.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Help develop strategies to assist teachers in dealing with special education students; provide services to special education students.
- Oversee the academic program development of students in special education programs.
- Assist in disciplinary and crisis situations with special education students as they occur, including student consultations. This includes appropriate documentation and communication procedures.
- Represent the school at case conferences, including coordinating conferences with special education office and telephoning parents/guardians to be present, informing the necessary teachers, etc.
- Schedule and lead CCC meetings; ensure all required team members attend.
- Guide discussions to focus on FAPE and data-driven decisions.
- Document meeting outcomes, including eligibility, placement, and services decisions.
- Parent/Staff Communications
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with parents/staff.
- Provide prior written notice for all special education decisions.
- Ensure parents understand their rights under Indiana Article 7 (Procedural Safeguards).
- Problem-Solving & Conflict Resolution
- Assist in resolving concerns from parents, staff, or students in a professional manner.
- Ensure all decisions and agreements are documented.
- Coordinate the scheduling of special education students and assist in developing teacher schedules. Should include inclusive practices to best support students.
- Act as a resource for special education teachers within the building; support students in conjunction with teachers of record.
- Maintain and secure appropriate special education records, including a copy of the permanent record, psychometric reports, appropriate discipline records, medication needs, release forms, etc.
- Coordinate appropriate procedures and steps with central office staff regarding evaluations and placement of students in various special education programs. Ensure that evaluation procedures meet federal and state requirements.
- Coordinate initial evaluations, re-evaluations.
- Ensure parents are notified and procedural safeguards are provided.
- Maintain documentation for all evaluation and reevaluation processes.
- Serve as lead for all move-in students and assist with the placement upon arrival to the building.
- Use consistent language that adheres to language consistent with Indiana Article 7.
- Be a liaison between other schools in NAFCS and all appropriate agencies as well as community support groups and businesses that deal with student concerns.
- Maintain accurate records of student accommodations; input accommodations as needed to all testing platforms during given testing windows.
- Confirm that all related services (speech, OT, PT, transportation) are provided per the IEP. Coordinate with the related service providers.
- Document and review placements to ensure appropriateness
- Assist with and involvement in 504 writing of plans and conferences that require greater oversight in the classroom.

- Professional Development - Stay current on Indiana Article 7 updates, state guidance, and best practices. Attend training(s) provided and share knowledge with staff to ensure ongoing compliance and student success. Share information with teachers as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Administration and/or other designee.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
