Evaluation Period: Annual performance evaluations if the student works the entire academic year. If the student works one semester, the performance evaluation will be completed after that semester

Purpose: Assist the Chemistry Lab Manager in day-to-day tasks. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assist in setting up/taking down labs, including:
  • Setting up trays for items and chemicals needed for labs
  • Getting out and/or setting up equipment needed for labs
  • Cleaning equipment and putting items and chemicals away after a lab is completed
• Help with lab drawer check-in/check-out by giving lab students items as they request them
• Perform weekly tasks, such as checking temperatures for some equipment, stocking disposable items in the labs, etc.
• Wash labware and return items to their proper storage areas (shelves, cabinets, etc.) after they are dry
• Assist with miscellaneous tasks, which may include:
  • Helping with chemical and equipment inventories
  • Organizing labs, the stockroom, or the prep room
  • Assisting in labs with large student enrollment
  • Making up solutions for a lab
• Other duties as assigned

• Currently enrolled student at Mount St. Joseph University
• Chemistry, Biology or Bio-Chemistry major required
• Work-study eligible students preferred
• Demonstrate consistently responsible behavior with chemicals and respect for instruction from stockroom manager and faculty.
• Have the ability to safely set up lab equipment and chemicals.
• Have the ability to follow directions and ask questions when something is not clear before performing a task.
• Have no grades of a D or lower from the immediately previous semester and maintaining a C average at the mid-term of the current semester.
• Have no grades of a C or lower for any classes required for their major.
• Ability to work on own initiative, independently, and to deadlines
• Well organized, punctual, and reliable
• The ability to communicate sensitively and tactfully, both orally and in writing, with individuals at all levels within the University
