Specialized Assistant

Mount Mansfield Union High School is seeking a part-time (10 hours a week) support person who has nursing experience.  The ideal candidate will have compassion and care for supporting an individual student within the classroom and other school activities.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Works the hours and days as required for the individual student or program that is consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Implements and supports medical plans.
• Provides for the hygienic needs of student(s); may include feeding, toileting, diapering, and other situations where bodily fluids and functions are involved.
• Assists students with a communication board or facilitated communication system. 
• Provides health-related support to students as delegated by a registered nurse, which may include administering medications (oral, inhalation, enteral/tube feeding, and intramuscular), performing diabetes care tasks (such as blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, and carbohydrate counting), monitoring medical equipment, implement medical plan, monitoring for side effects or changes in condition, documenting all care per protocol, and promptly communicating any concerns to the school nurse or building administrator.
• Responsible for specific student(s) when on field trips and in specials.
• Attends team meetings as requested.
• Assists with supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies and field trips.
• Utilizes appropriate building systems for communicating questions and/or concerns.
• Reports all student safety issues to immediate supervisor and/or building administrator.
• Participates in a performance review at least annually with immediate supervisor and building administrator.
• Provides assistance/first aid for students in the absence/unavailability of school nurse.

• Attends all required meetings, training, seminars and workshops.
• Follows all school policies and procedures in order for MMUUSD to adhere to all Federal, State and OSHA regulations.
• Creates a safe work environment by reporting all safety concerns to an administrator and adhering to all safety rules and regulations.
• Other duties as assigned by a special educator, classroom teacher or principal.
