Cost Accountant

Cost Accountant – Bloomfield, CT

A leading metals manufacturer is looking for a Cost Accountant to join their team in Bloomfield. The Cost Accountant acts as a supporting resource for Costing, Production, Work Order, and Metals programs including some vendor relationships and inventory accuracy. This reports to the Senior Manager.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in the annual cost roll by reviewing material costs and calculating direct labor and overhead rates. Prepare variances reporting and assist with variance review.
• Reconcile scrap reporting to physical scrap and assist in review of gains and losses.
• Assist with monthly metals reconciliation to the ledger and bank balances.
• Assist with annual physical inventory count as needed.
• Calculate and report on cycle count accuracy and perform quarterly cycle count audits.
• Prepare quarterly inventory reports and coordinate scrap of obsolete items.
• Roll standard cost for individual items as needed.
• Prepare various inventory turn reporting and labor reporting.
• Investigate labor reporting errors; reconcile the scrap.
• Perform various inventory transactions and monitor tooling job orders.
• Perform timely and accurate month-end close activities including journal entries and reconciliations. Provide support for an annual financial audit.
• Participate in preparation of quarterly forecasts and annual budget.
• Assist in validation of budgeted headcount to production hours during annual budget process.
• Support the review of margins and product costing.
• Other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Accounting/Finance.
• 2-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of inventory control.
• Demonstrated management of inventory movement controls and costing.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
• Some domestic and international travel might be required.
• Strong Excel skills, Good written and oral communication skills.
• Be neat and detail oriented.
