Counter Staff

Mount Desert Island Ice Cream is an artisanal ice cream shop with locations in Portland and Bar Harbor, ME as well as Washington, D.C. and Matsumoto and Azumino, Japan. We make premium ice creams and vegan frozen desserts, focusing on using high quality fresh ingredients and making everything from scratch. We are also woman owned (by the good and great Linda Parker) and run by Natalie Barnett (Director of Operations).

MDIIC strives to create a great atmosphere for customers - the type of environment WE would want to experience as customers. We have the same approach with our team, working to create a place WE would want to work at! And good news, we are hiring to fill our open positions for counter help in Portland!

We provide flexible scheduling (both in terms of start/end dates and weekly hours/shifts) and pay starts at $16.75/hour tips.

This is a fast-paced job that requires a lot, but if you come in with the right attitude, you will find you are excited to show up to work! We aim to promote a fun and organized work environment and are looking for people to help us reach that goal.

Positions are available to start this month and run until late December. We are hoping to find some staff that are looking to stay with us into the winter and early 2027 season (we plan to reopen early February). Hours range from morning to late at night, and we're searching for part-time, full time, any-in-between-time employees. We are looking for folks to work through the end of December, and we are flexible on start dates. We are currently looking to fill 2 opening shifts and 3 closing shifts a week.

Basic responsibilities include but are not limited to:

o Scooping and serving ice creams, and making menu items (milkshakes, sundaes, floats and more!)

o Cleaning and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the shop throughout the shift

o Interacting with customers! (90% of the counter position is talking to people, answering questions, and helping guide them through our flavors)

o Running the register (cashing out customers, giving change, selling merchandise, ensuring accurate register drawers, etc.)

The ideal candidates for counter positions:

• Enjoy meeting and interacting with a variety of people, coworkers, and customers
• Are quick learners and can work independently
• Team players
• Have a strong sense of personal cleanliness and organization
