Job Summary
Mt. Calvary Episcopal Church, a welcoming congregation in Camp Hill, Pa. seeks a part-time Music Director to lead the preparation and presentation of worship music for one service per week, Holy Days and special services.
Reporting to the Rector, this role leads the liturgical music program, plays both the piano and organ and directs the volunteer bell and voice choir(s). Music selection is aligned with the Episcopal tradition and liturgical season. The Music Director plays a vital role in fostering an uplifting spiritual environment and promoting a comprehensive music ministry involving all ages.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, rehearse and direct music for Sunday worship services, Holy Days and special services.
- Collaborate with the Rector, staff and musicians to create new worship opportunities for children, families and the wider community.
- Recruit and support volunteer musicians.
- Intermingle soloists, ensembles and guest musicians throughout the season.
- Maintain musical instruments and maximize use of Mount Calvary’s extensive music library.
- Collaborative planning of the worship music program with the Rector, staff and choir members.
- Provide music or secure substitutes for weddings and funerals.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree required, degree in musical performance or music education
- preferred.
- Proficient in playing both the piano and organ.
- Choral conducting experience preferred.
- Knowledge of music and liturgy of the Episcopal Church or other liturgical churches
- preferred but not required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills; self-motivated and able to work independently while collaborating effectively with clergy, staff, volunteer choristers, parishioners and other church music directors.
- Candidates with minimum of 2-3 years of music ministry experience in a church setting preferred.
Background Screening & Training: The successful candidate will be required to complete a three-phase background screening (PA PATCH, PA Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprint) and Diocesan Safeguarding God's Children training prior to beginning work.
Work Hours: This is a part-time salaried position, 19 hours per week on average, hours during the program season will be greater and summer hours less.
