What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hardware Test Engineer position at Motive Workforce?
We're supporting an innovative technology company building next-generation hardware, and we're hiring Test Engineers to stand up our hardware testing capability from scratch. This is a hands-on role with real ownership: you'll design and build the HITL systems, production test processes, and canary fleet infrastructure that keep our products reliable before they ever reach a customer.
If you like building things that don't exist yet and owning them end to end, read on.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and maintain Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) test systems across multiple hardware platforms
- Develop production unit test processes that catch issues before deployment
- Build and own canary fleet testing tools, processes, and operational procedures
- Create test procedures, documentation, and engineering standards
- Analyze test data and turn it into actionable reliability improvements
- Lead root cause investigations on hardware failures and drive them to resolution
- Partner with Engineering and Operations to align testing with real-world conditions
- Build scalable test infrastructure and workflows from the ground up
What you'll bring
- Bachelor's in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related engineering field — or equivalent hands-on experience
- Experience designing, building, and operating hardware test systems
- A track record developing test procedures, documentation, and validation methodologies
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis on complex hardware
- Comfort reading code, writing scripts, and working in Git
- A self-directed builder who sets priorities and creates process independently
Nice to have
- HITL test environment design or maintenance
- DAQs, sensors, telemetry, or logging software
- Python, Git, and Linux proficiency
- Power electronics, battery systems, or high-voltage hardware
- Experience spanning both R&D and production manufacturing
Why join
You'll build a test engineering function from the ground up — shaping the infrastructure, standards, and processes that future engineering teams will rely on. Your work will directly move the needle on product reliability, manufacturing quality, and customer success.
