What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Accountant - Construction position at Motive Energy?
We’re looking for a Project Accountant to take ownership of financial management across active construction projects from start to finish. From budgets and billing to compliance and reporting, this role is critical in keeping project financials accurate, timely, and audit-ready. You’ll partner with project managers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure every project runs smoothly from a financial perspective.
What You’ll Do
- Plan and monitor construction project budgets with project managers.
- Analyze costs vs. forecasts and provide reporting to stakeholders.
- Prepare and submit milestone invoices, AIA forms, lien waivers, and billing documentation.
- Record and apply customer payments, reconcile AR accounts, and manage cash flow forecasts.
- Track project costs to support revenue recognition and month-end close.
- Review subcontractor pay applications and supplier invoices; coordinate payments with AP.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and maintain audit-ready records.
- Set up projects in the ERP system, update for change orders, and keep data accurate.
- Collaborate with estimators, sales, and operations to align financial reporting.
- Provide professional, responsive support to clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3 years of accounting experience in construction (preferred).
- Knowledge of AIA billing, lien waivers, and construction contracts.
- Experience with project-based ERP/accounting systems (Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.).
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Clear, professional communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
