Manufacturing Data & AI Engineer / Contract / Hybrid / Foster City, CA

Our client, a leader in autonomous vehicles, is hiring for a contract Manufacturing Data & AI Engineer. This is an onsite position M-F in Foster City, CA.

This role will support the development of intelligent manufacturing systems, scalable data architecture, and AI-enabled operational solutions across Manufacturing Operations.

This role will be responsible for building the data foundation that powers operational reporting, decision-making, process optimization, and future AI applications. The successful candidate will partner closely with Manufacturing, Program Management, Operations, and IT teams to transform manufacturing data into actionable insights and scalable business solutions.

This role combines strong data engineering expertise with practical problem-solving to address real-world manufacturing challenges and help establish the next generation of data-driven autonomous vehicle production systems.

Contract Duration: 6 Months to Start, Great Chance to Extend Based on Performance

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines, ETL processes, and data warehouse solutions that support Manufacturing Operations reporting, analytics, and decision-making.
• Build and manage curated data models and analytics-ready datasets that provide a trusted source of manufacturing performance, quality, and operational metrics.
• Integrate data from enterprise and manufacturing systems, including SAP HANA, SAP MES, production systems, quality systems, and operational databases.
• Identify operational challenges and partner with stakeholders to develop AI-enabled solutions, analytics tools, and automation opportunities that improve manufacturing performance.
• Develop and optimize Python-based data processing solutions and advanced SQL queries to transform, integrate, and analyze complex datasets.
• Establish robust data governance, validation, monitoring, and quality frameworks to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of manufacturing data assets.
• Support the long-term evolution of Manufacturing Operations data architecture, enabling advanced analytics, machine learning, automation, and intelligent manufacturing capabilities.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in either Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
• 4–6 years of experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field with significant data responsibilities.
• Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, data modeling, ETL development, and enterprise-scale data warehousing solutions.
• Experience designing scalable data architectures and building trusted, analytics-ready datasets that support operational decision-making.
• Working knowledge of AWS cloud technologies and modern data platforms, with strong understanding of data quality, governance, and monitoring principles.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with SAP HANA, SAP MES, or other manufacturing execution and enterprise resource planning systems.
• Experience developing data models and architectures that support AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics applications.
• Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial operations, robotics, autonomous systems, or supply chain environments.
• AWS Certified Data Engineer, AWS Solutions Architect, or equivalent cloud certification.
• Demonstrated ability to translate business challenges into scalable technical solutions through data, analytics, and AI technologies.
