Our client, a well-known financial technology company, is looking for someone to join their team as a Hardware Failure Analysis Technician in Oakland, CA.
This is a 6-month W2 contract with benefits offered
The team is looking for someone to support the investigation and resolution of consumer electronics failures. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience diagnosing hardware issues who is eager to deepen their expertise in failure analysis, product disassembly, and cross-functional collaboration.
What You Will Be Doing
- Perform hands-on triage and root cause analysis on field-returned devices
- Reproduce reported failure modes and document test conditions, steps, and results in detail
- Execute failure analysis plans and proactively identify gaps or opportunities for improvement
- Collaborate with engineering teams to drive deeper investigations when needed
- Participate in issue reviews and contribute to decisions on next steps and risk mitigation
- Identify trends and recurring failure patterns across multiple units
- Maintain accurate and organized tracking of all devices in your queue, ensuring no issues are overlooked
Required Skills & Experience
- 2 years of hands-on experience in triage, failure analysis, and root cause investigations for consumer electronics (e.g., smartphones, tablets, POS systems, or similar devices)
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals (voltage, current, resistance)
- Experience using lab equipment such as multimeters, microscopes, data loggers, and thermocouples
- Proven experience performing device teardowns and hardware disassembly
- Strong organizational skills and ability to navigate ambiguous, complex problems
- High attention to detail with excellent documentation practices
- Ability to work independently and manage your own queue effectively
Preferred Skills
- Experience with tools such as Snowflake, Jira, or Looker
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
Salary : $40 - $45
