An American news and media company primarily focused on local news, digital media, and local marketing services is looking to hire a Solution Architect with experience designing modern, scalable microservices architectures. This company has over 50 affiliate stations across the nation and prides itself on covering breaking local stories so communities can stay up to date.
For this role, they are looking for a skilled Solution Architect to partner with engineering teams and lead the design of scalable, secure, and resilient backend systems that power their content platform. This person will play a key role in shaping the technical direction of several new initiatives as the company enters a major growth phase with a 2026 roadmap of greenfield projects. This is a full-time position and requires 3 days a week onsite at their office in Knoxville. They also offer competitive salaries and benefits. - Experience guiding engineering teams on scalable system design
- 7 years of software engineering experience with architectural responsibilities
- BS in Computer Science or related field is a plus
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and technical leadership
- Strong problem-solving ability and a proactive mindset
Daily Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture and design of scalable backend services and distributed systems
- Partner with engineering teams to define system architecture, integration patterns, and technical standards
- Guide teams in implementing microservices, event-driven systems, and cloud-native solutions
- Ensure systems are secure, resilient, and optimized for performance and scalability
- Provide architectural oversight for new greenfield projects on the company's 2026 roadmap
- Work closely with product, DevOps, and engineering leadership to align technical strategy with business goals
