What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Machinist position at Motion Raceworks?
Motion Raceworks is a rapidly growing manufacturer of high-performance automotive components. We are looking for a motivated individual to work in a Machinist capacity in our Dewitt, IA facility. Motion is a small, focused group of passionate individuals with unique skill sets. The environment is very fast paced and exciting.
Responsibilities:
- Set up CNC machines, including lathes, vertical, horizontal, and 5 axis mills, to perform machining operations according to specifications
- Build tooling, touch off, make adjustments in CAM or machining center
- Operate CNC machines when no set ups are available
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models and a job schedule to determine dimensions, tolerances, and tooling requirements
- Use precision measuring instruments and verification fixturing to inspect parts and ensure they meet quality standards
- Monitor machine operation and make adjustments as necessary to ensure proper performance
- Troubleshoot issues with machines or tools and make necessary repairs or adjustments
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Offer suggestions for process improvements that reduce set up time, improve load time, reduce cycle time, or eliminate scrap on new and existing products
- Basic machine troubleshooting
Qualifications:
- 5 years of prior CNC machine setup experience
- Proficient in operating milling machines, lathes, 5 axis machining centers or other CNC equipment
- Knowledge of CAM programming and G-code as well as some CAD experience (we utilize Fusion 360 for CAD/CAM as well as Espirit for CAM)
- Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models and job schedules
- Basic math skills for performing calculations and measurements
- Knowledge of tooling selection and setup for different machining operations
- Experience with hand tools and precision measuring instruments
- Technical and problem-solving skills and reasoning ability
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly working closely with teammates
- Must be self-motivated and a great team worker
- Preferential Qualifications: Experience with Haas NextGen, Mazak Smooth, Citizen/Mitsubishi, or Okuma P-300/500 controls
