What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machinist and CNC Machining Center, Mill & Lathe Operator position at Hansaloy?
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Machinist and CNC Machining Center, Mill & Lathe Operator to join our dynamic manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, programming, operating, and maintaining CNC machines—including mills and lathes—to produce precision metal components. Your expertise in machining tools, blueprint reading, and measurement will ensure high-quality output that meets strict specifications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with advanced manufacturing technology in a fast-paced environment dedicated to excellence and continuous improvement.
The Machinist position is responsible for fabricating commercial “volume run” parts, prototype items, and “short run” repair / replacement machine components to support the plant operations. The person must be able to work with engineering to go from prints to machine programming & fixture development for part fabrication. Plant operations support at times will require the fabrication of replacement or new components using legacy parts or concepts without the support of prints.
This position will fabricate parts from raw materials to design specifications per print specifically using CNC machining, lathe & mill equipment in addition to traditional machine shop equipment.
Operation of the CNC equipment requires programming to efficiently manufacture parts per print, measuring parts to print conformance & making necessary adjustments to achieve or maintain tolerance. This position will also operate auxiliary equipment such as a band saw; hand tools for grinding, polishing, drilling, reaming; and drill presses.
Responsibilities
- Set up CNC machining centers, including mills and lathes, ensuring proper installation of tooling, fixtures, and workpieces.
- Program CNC machines using G-code and M-code, and/or Mastercam software to produce complex parts with precision.
- Interpret mechanical blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining requirements and specifications.
- Operate manual machining tools such as die grinders , drill press, belt grinders, and hand tools to perform secondary operations or inspections.
- Conduct quality control inspections using measurement instruments like calipers, mics, height gage, dial indicators, and precision measuring instruments to verify part dimensions.
- Perform machine maintenance, troubleshooting, and adjustments to optimize performance and ensure safety standards are met.
- Follow lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance overall productivity.
Requirements
- Proven experience operating CNC milling machines and CNC lathes. Use of HAAS machines a plus
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming including G-code and M-code, Mastercam, CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design) (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software, SolidWorks for part design review
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards for precise measurement.
- Mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of machining tools, tooling setup, machine calibration, and basic math skills for measurements.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to perform precision measurements using micrometers, bore gauges, calipers and go/no-go gauges.
- Strong problem-solving skills combined with the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
