Job Overview

The Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for managing incoming patient payments, properly tracking them into the system to maintain accurate records. They will also create reports and manage reports that lead to superior and efficient account receivable operations. Specifically, duties will include tracking payments, making bank deposits, and ensuring patient accounts reflect accurate account receivables by using internal tools and following developed processes.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage and process incoming patient payments, in the forms of debit/credit cards, HSA, e-check/mailed checks and post payments to the correct customer accounts.
  • Prepare AR aging reports and other financial reports and track payments that lead to effective AR management and accurate patient and accounting records.
  • Monitor aging reports to track overdue accounts and provide updates on collection status and outstanding balances.
  • Update and manage patient accounts with proper balance information and collaborate on collection efforts.
  • Stays current with changing insurance regulations, billing requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements to enhance billing efficiency and accuracy.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or GED equivalent required, associate degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
  • Ability to pass drug screen and criminal background check.
  • 2 years of experience in pharmacy billing, medical billing, or healthcare revenue cycle management and strong knowledge of insurance billing processes, including Medicare Part D, Medicaid, and commercial insurance.
  • Experience working with pharmacy management systems and billing software.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Virginia Pharmacy Technician license a plus.
