About the role

The Recruiter manages hiring for an assigned group of Morrow Basket stores and selected corporate departments. You will work with hiring leaders to define their needs, attract candidates, conduct initial interviews, coordinate the selection process, and maintain communication through the offer stage.

The position includes both recurring store hiring and professional positions in areas such as marketing, finance, purchasing, facilities, and customer support. You will not be responsible for employee relations, payroll, or benefits administration.

What you’ll do

  • Meet with hiring leaders to confirm responsibilities, schedule, compensation, required qualifications, and interview steps before opening a position.
  • Write and publish accurate job advertisements using approved salary ranges and employment terms.
  • Review applications and conduct structured phone or video interviews.
  • Present qualified candidates with clear screening notes based on job-related criteria.
  • Schedule interviews and provide candidates with instructions, timelines, and information about the hiring process.
  • Maintain accurate candidate status, interview feedback, and required records in the applicant-tracking system.
  • Prepare offer requests and explain approved compensation, schedule, benefits, and pre-employment requirements to selected candidates.
  • Support store hiring events, new-location openings, employee referrals, and local recruiting partnerships.
  • Track recruiting activity and identify positions that need different advertising, compensation review, or faster manager feedback.
  • Close completed or canceled vacancies promptly and communicate final decisions to candidates.
  • Partner with HR operations for background checks, onboarding documents, and confirmed start dates.

What we’re looking for

Candidates should meet one of the following experience combinations:

  • At least one year of experience in corporate recruiting, agency recruiting, staffing, talent acquisition, or high-volume hiring.
  • At least two years of retail, hospitality, customer-service, or operations experience that included interviewing, scheduling, onboarding, or hiring support.

You will also need:

  • Clear phone, video, and written communication.
  • Strong organization when managing candidates at different stages of the hiring process.
  • The ability to evaluate applicants against stated qualifications rather than personal similarities or assumptions.
  • Comfort discussing schedules, pay ranges, physical requirements, and pre-employment steps directly with candidates.
  • Experience with an applicant-tracking system, HR platform, CRM, or comparable record-management software.
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets and standard office applications.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for local store visits.

A bachelor’s degree is welcome but not required. Previous grocery experience and professional HR certification are also not required.

Spanish-language skills are helpful for some locations but are not a condition of employment.

Recruiting workload

Recruiters generally manage 18–25 active openings at a time. A typical assignment includes recurring store positions and three to six professional or specialized vacancies.

During a new-store opening, the workload may temporarily increase to approximately 35 openings for six to eight weeks. An additional recruiter or temporary scheduling support is assigned during these periods.

Hiring leaders are expected to submit interview feedback within two business days. Recruiters are not responsible for compensating for repeated manager delays by contacting candidates outside normal working hours.

Performance is evaluated through hiring quality, candidate communication, record accuracy, appropriate time to fill, offer acceptance, and partnership with hiring teams. The number of hires made is not used as the sole performance measure.

Hiring-event schedule

Most work takes place during regular business hours. The Recruiter normally attends one or two pre-scheduled evening or Saturday hiring events per month.

When an event occurs outside the regular schedule, working hours are adjusted during the same week. Travel time between the office and an assigned store or event is counted as working time, and approved mileage is reimbursed.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with employer contributions, health savings and flexible spending accounts, employer-paid life insurance, and short- and long-term disability coverage.
  • A 401(k) plan with a dollar-for-dollar company match on the first 4% of eligible pay and immediate vesting of matching contributions.
  • 16 days of paid time off during the first year, eight paid holidays, five paid sick days, and two personal days.
  • Paid parental leave, confidential mental-health and financial-counseling resources, and an employee assistance program.
  • Up to $2,000 annually for approved recruiting courses, HR certifications, professional memberships, and conferences.
  • Company-provided laptop and phone, mileage and parking reimbursement for approved travel, a 15% employee grocery discount, and a monthly prepared-meal allowance.

Team environment

The recruiting team includes four recruiters, a recruiting operations employee, and the Talent Acquisition Lead. Recruiters support different groups of stores but share candidates when location, schedule, and experience create a better match elsewhere in the company.

Morrow Basket expects recruiters to provide candidates with the salary range, work schedule, location, and hiring steps early in the process. Recruiters should not keep candidates in an active pipeline when no approved vacancy exists.

The team reviews difficult searches weekly and may recommend changes to pay, schedule, qualifications, or advertising when a position repeatedly fails to attract suitable applicants.

Hiring process

  • A 30-minute introductory call with a People Operations Partner to discuss your recruiting experience, work arrangement, travel, compensation, and availability.
  • A 45-minute interview with the Talent Acquisition Lead focused on candidate screening, hiring-manager communication, organization, and decision-making.
  • A 45-minute live recruiting exercise using a sample store vacancy and several short candidate profiles. You will identify intake questions, explain whom you would contact, and draft a brief candidate update during the conversation. No advance preparation or take-home work is required.
  • A 30-minute conversation with a Recruiter and a Store Leader about workload, hiring events, candidate communication, and cooperation between recruiting and operations.
  • Final reference and employment checks, followed by a conditional written offer. Any required background check is completed after the candidate accepts the offer and in accordance with applicable law.
