This individual is responsible for the operation of the CNC machines and manual equipment that produce parts, using customer blueprints or tooling design. This person will operate drill presses, horizontal machining centers (Makino), vertical mills, pedestal grinders for hand deburring for machining operations. Responsible for removing sharp edges from parts and for inhibiting the formation of rust on those parts. This is a good starting role for an individual who wants to develop skills and then advance to setup roles.
Working Hours:
Monday - Friday: 6:30AM - 2:30PM
Pay: $29 - $33/hour (depending on experience)
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints to comprehend work orders.
- Safely load and unload raw materials or parts into CNC milling machine.
- Checking dimensions of your parts with calipers, micrometers, height gages, etc.
- Make tooling changes when cutting tools are dull, damaged, or in need of replacement.
- Make cutter compensation moves as tools wear.
- Isolate any pieces that may not conform to the standards of the work order.
- Provide tooling, fixture and programming improvement solutions as needed during each production run.
- Perform general preventive maintenance on machines and equipment when needed, this includes coolant, grease, and cleaning other features of the machine for it to operate effectively.
Tasks Commonly Performed:
- Follow the machining process from the very beginning to the end to ensure quality of parts.
- Enter and adjust work and tool offsets as necessary to ensure quality parts are being produced.
- Use of calipers, micrometers, and other inspection equipment to ensure quality parts.
- Segregate/sort non-conforming parts to ensure all parts to customer are conforming to print requirements.
- Maintain good housekeeping of workspace and floors.
- Wear protective attire, such as safety eyeglasses, safety shoes, and gloves.
- Use computers to access job information and enter labor incurred.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 1 – 2 years CNC coursework or equivalent and/or 1 – 3 years of job-related experience.
- Understanding of machining and machine types, materials, controllers, tooling and fixtures.
- Competent at reading blueprints.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and mathematical capability.
- Ability to read and understand drawings and blueprints and quality plans.
- Understand Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning and apply to necessary projects (preferred but not required).
