What are the responsibilities and job description for the Customs Brokerage Entry Writer position at Morrison Express?
Role & Responsibilities:
- To process U.S. Customs entry documents in accordance with all client and company instructions.
- Perform audit and review on all assigned brokerage files and payments to customs
- Properly classify the commercial invoices using the US Tariff Book and CROSS as a reference tool
- Data entry of import AMS information and HTS# - Including transmission to US Customs
- Preparing entry documentation including 7501 and 3461
- Specialize in remote location filing
- Assists with maintaining compliance measures for import operation – Maintain document compliance
- Ensures that proper documentation and procedures are maintained in accordance with U.S. Customs standards
- Arrange both delivery and the invoicing of the import account for services rendered
- Ensure timely filing of ISF 72 hours prior to shipment leaving last origin port
- Prepare delivery orders, send to trucker, follow up with POD
- Process documents through the Company's ABI system, obtaining Customs release and other government agency releases as appropriate
- Review and monitor all Customs rejections and requests for information for clients
- Filing of Import Security Filings (ISF)
- Timely response to customer inquiries and status requests.
- To notify management of any customer complaints or entry discrepancies and provide suggestions to resolve issues.
- To distribute outgoing documents regularly and accurately, according to any required schedule.
- Assure all customer files are complete, accurate and reconciled.
- Close communication with customers, carriers, U.S. Customs, and CFS representatives.
- Complete workload duties within normal and reasonable processing times.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Manager.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience handling customs business.
- Experience working in freight forwarding.
- Experience filing entries containing PGA information.
- Experience filing ISFs accurately and timely.
- Should have a working knowledge of the terms and jargon that Customs, other government agencies, vendors, carriers and import customers use.
- Attention to detail, deadline-oriented, dependable, persistence, time management, independent, documentation skills, scheduling and reporting skills.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients and vendors.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage the flow of several shipments during a given day.
- Candidates must be self-motivated, customer service oriented, and eager to ensure the success of the team.
- Ability to function independently, with minimal supervision, and thrive within a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment.
- Ability to make suggestions to the Dept. Manager on corrective actions or process improvements.
