What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Architect position at Morris Technology Solutions?
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to design and implement a modern enterprise data architecture for a capital project and program management environment. This role is focused on transforming highly fragmented and largely unstructured data into a scalable, governed, and analytics-ready data ecosystem that supports strategic decision-making across large construction programs.
The organization is undergoing a data modernization initiative, with data currently dispersed across multiple systems and unstructured repositories such as project documentation, bid reviews, schedules, and legacy platforms. A key focus of this role is to define and implement a unified data architecture that brings structure, governance, and usability to this environment.
The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, capable of assessing the current-state data landscape, defining a future-state architecture, and guiding implementation of a modern data platform that enables reporting, analytics, and AI-driven insights.
Why This Role?
This is a high-impact opportunity to build a data function and architecture from the ground up within a rapidly growing, project-driven organization. The environment is evolving quickly, with increasing emphasis on data-driven decision-making, operational transparency, and modernization of legacy systems.
You will have the opportunity to shape the data strategy, introduce modern architecture patterns, and directly influence how large-scale capital programs are managed and reported. This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys solving complex, unstructured data challenges and building scalable systems in a greenfield or early-stage data environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement a modern Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) to structure and govern enterprise data
- Architect scalable data solutions within a Microsoft-centric ecosystem, leveraging modern cloud data platforms
- Build and maintain data lakes, data warehouses, and ETL/ELT pipelines
- Develop data models that unify structured (project, financial, scheduling) and unstructured (documents, reports, communications) data
- Establish data governance, quality, metadata, and lifecycle management standards
- Transform unstructured data into structured, analytics-ready insights using AI and automation techniques
- Partner with business stakeholders to define reporting and analytics requirements and translate them into scalable solutions
- Assess the current data landscape and define a roadmap for future-state architecture and modernization
- Collaborate with internal leadership and external technology partners to align on architecture and implementation strategy
- Enable a “single source of truth” for capital program data to support forecasting, risk management, and performance tracking
- Support the integration of data from multiple enterprise and project management systems into a unified platform
Required Qualifications
- 8 years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or related enterprise data roles
- Strong experience designing and implementing modern cloud-based data platforms
- Hands-on experience with Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold)
- Expertise in data warehousing, data lakes, and ETL/ELT pipeline development
- Strong experience with data governance, data quality, and metadata management
- Experience working with both structured and unstructured data sources
- Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language such as Python
- Experience designing semantic or analytical data models for reporting and BI tools
- Strong ability to translate technical architecture into business value and outcomes
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with Microsoft data technologies (e.g., Microsoft Fabric, Synapse, Azure Data Lake, or equivalent platforms)
- Experience working in project-based industries such as construction, engineering, real estate development, or professional services
- Familiarity with enterprise project management or ERP systems
- Experience leveraging AI/ML concepts for data extraction, transformation, or enrichment
- Understanding of modern data integration patterns and API-based data ingestion
- Experience working in environments with outsourced or limited internal IT infrastructure
- Background in building data strategy or roadmap from early-stage or fragmented environments
