What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pat-Time Writing Specialist position at Morningside University?
Morningside University is seeking an enthusiastic, student-focused Part-Time Writing Specialist to provide individualized writing support approximately 25 hours a week. In this role, you’ll help students develop confidence, critical-thinking skills, and effective written communication across academic disciplines and professional settings.
What You’ll Do
- Provide one-on-one feedback on essays, research papers, reports, resumes, and other documents.
- Support students with organization, clarity, grammar, punctuation, style, and development of ideas.
- Help students interpret assignments, develop thesis statements, integrate sources, and use APA, MLA, and other citation styles.
- Teach brainstorming, drafting, revising, proofreading, and self-editing strategies.
- Coach students in adapting their writing for different disciplines, audiences, and purposes.
- Foster independent learning through constructive, inclusive, and encouraging feedback.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Writing, Education, Communications, or a related field.
- Three years of teaching experience or equivalent experience.
- Strong writing, communication, interpersonal, and active-listening skills.
- Experience in tutoring, teaching, mentoring, a writing center, or higher education is preferred.
- Commitment to support students from diverse academic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
