Job Description
Title: Assistant Principal
Immediate Supervisor: Principal
Minimum Qualifications:
- Principals shall hold Class "A" Professional Certificate from an accredited institution with a major in administration and supervision.
- The contract period for the senior high principals shall be for twelve months. The contract period for junior high principals shall be for twelve months. The contract period for elementary principals shall be for twelve months.

Assists Principal in the following Essential Functions:
Student Performance
- Sets and enforces rigorous standards for student achievement that are in line with the goals of Morgan County School District.
- Ensures the academic program meets or exceeds yearly student outcome goals as defined by Morgan County School District and measured by the state of Alabama accountability requirements.
Organizational Leadership
- Develops organizational goals and objectives consistent with the vision, mission and values of Morgan County School District.
- Maintains active involvement in the school improvement planning process by providing resources for decision-making and priority setting.
- Leads teachers in developing a healthy school culture aligned with the vision, mission and values of the school and the region.
- Creates a culture of excellence, team work and collaboration amongst the staff, teachers, students and families.
- Fosters a school climate that supports both student and staff success and promotes respect and appreciation for all students, staff and parents.
- Oversees all programs, services, and activities to ensure that program objectives are met.
- Ensures compliance with all local, state and federal funding sources.
Instructional Leadership
- Works with teachers to constantly assess and improve student achievement results
- Ensures use of effective, research-based teaching methodologies and practices.
- Implements data-driven instructional practices and lead discussions about student performance.
- Works with teachers to improve their teaching practice through coaching, professional development, modeling, and collaborative plan
- Uses data to plan meaningful in-service and professional development for staff.
- Fosters culture of professionalism among teachers and staff.
- Ensures learning environment and classroom instruction maximizes student learning.
- Monitors progress of all students.
Operational Leadership
- Implements the budget development process with the assistance of the Morgan County School District Superintendent and Chief School Finance Officer that meets targeted requirements.
- Oversees routine facilities maintenance.
- Oversees management of school records and resources as necessary.
Personnel
- Recruits, selects, and hires school staff, including teachers and school-based support staff.
- Continually monitors progress on all measures of school and staff performance.
- Administers Morgan County School District approved personnel policies and procedures.
- Ensures legal hiring and termination procedures in collaboration with the District’s Human Resources staff.
- Oversees any disciplinary actions.
- Provides for adequate supervision, training, and evaluation of all staff and volunteers.
Community Relations
- Serves as liaison between teachers, parents, and the community.
- Exhibits a high degree of professionalism in all elements of this position, while serving as contributing member of the Morgan County School District and Community and a dedicated model for other employees.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
