JOB SUMMARY
The Special Education Early Interventionist provides specialized instruction and early intervention services to children ages 3–5 who have been identified as needing support. This is an itinerant position requiring regular travel to homes, daycare centers, MCIO Head Start, and district schools to deliver services in natural environments. Mileage is reimbursable according to district policy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direct early intervention and specialized instruction to preschool-aged children (ages 3–5) in accordance with IFSP/IEP goals
- Travel daily to multiple locations, including homes, daycare centers, Head Start programs, and schools
- Conduct developmentally appropriate assessments and ongoing progress monitoring
- Develop, implement, and revise individualized plans based on student needs
- Coach and support families and caregivers in implementing strategies that promote developmental growth
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including therapists, service coordinators, and early childhood educators
- Maintain accurate documentation, service logs, and reports in compliance with state and district requirements
- Participate in IEP meetings, transition planning, and professional development activities
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all district policies and state/federal regulations
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Teaching Certificate with Early Intervention endorsement OR Special Education endorsement with willingness to obtain EI add-on
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout the district and community
- Ability to meet all MPSD clearance requirements: drug screening, employer background check, CCCBC, and DCFS clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree in Special Education, Early Childhood, or related field
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with young children or in early childhood special education
- Experience delivering services in natural environments
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or move instructional materials and equipment weighing up to 20–30 pounds
- Ability to sit on the floor, kneel, bend, squat, crawl, and move comfortably within child-centered environments (homes, classrooms, and daycare settings)
- Ability to frequently transition between positions (e.g., standing to floor sitting) while actively engaging with young children
- Ability to provide physical assistance to young children as needed, including guiding movement or supporting participation in activities
- Ability to enter and navigate a variety of environments, including private homes, childcare facilities, and school settings
- Sufficient visual and auditory acuity (with or without assistive devices) to monitor child development, behavior, and safety
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and tolerate periods of driving between multiple daily service locations
- Physical stamina and endurance to manage a full day of travel, active instruction, and interaction with children and families
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Services are provided in homes, daycare centers, MCIO Head Start classrooms, and school settings
- The position requires independent work, including schedule management, travel, and service delivery without direct supervision
- Requires a high level of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when working in family homes and community settings
- Must maintain accurate and timely documentation, demonstrating accountability and compliance with district, state, and federal requirements
- Frequent travel required; mileage reimbursement provided
