The department of Business Administration at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a full-time position as an Academic Department Specialist (BUSA). The anticipated start date is July 1, 2025.
Morehead State University is located in Morehead, KY, a designated Kentucky Trail Town, nestled in the Daniel Boone National Forest, in close proximity to Cave Run Lake. RESPONSIBILITIES: With limited supervision, the Academic Department Specialist coordinates office operations and reports directly to the chair of the academic department; has signing and approval duties as identified by the department chair; assists the departmental faculty and serves as the initial contact with students and the public. This position also provides secretarial support for departmental grants.
The Academic Department Specialist manages the office within the context of departmental and university regulations and directives, assuming some administrative tasks as needed. The position requires the ability to anticipate tasks that need to be done and to work independently with initiative to accomplish tasks while simultaneously completing the daily routine work. Dealing with confidential matters is a critical aspect of this position.
REQUIREMENTS: Associate’s degree or high school diploma (or GED equivalent) with two years of secretarial experience. Must have experience with and knowledge of various computer software related to department needs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in an academic or similar setting preferred. Additional experience beyond that minimally required. Specialized experience with payroll, budget monitoring, and the maintenance of bookkeeping records associated with office accounts.

Organizational Relationships
The Academic Department Specialist reports to the Department Chair. The Academic Department Specialist supervises workstudy students and/or other clerical staff. Interacts with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
Physical Requirements
Position may require sitting for long periods of time.
Working Conditions
The Academic Department Specialist works in a highly productive office environment with interruptions and noise due to frequency of visitors, students, faculty, staff, and callers. Pressure is expected on the job due to the frequency and number of visitors and callers and the meeting of multiple job deadlines. Overtime may be required during emergencies. This position calls for initiative, good judgment, and a high degree of responsibility, and the ability to handle information of a confidential nature.
