Junior High Head Volleyball Coach

Job Summary:

The Middle School Head Volleyball Coach is responsible for developing, organizing, and supervising the volleyball program for middle school student-athletes. The coach will foster a positive, safe, and competitive environment that emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship, skill development, and academic success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Program Leadership:

  • Plan, organize, and conduct regular practices and matches in accordance with school and conference guidelines.

  • Develop fundamental volleyball skills appropriate for middle school athletes.

  • Promote a positive and respectful team culture emphasizing sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth.

• Player Development:

  • Teach and demonstrate proper techniques, rules, and strategies of volleyball.

  • Provide instruction that meets the varying skill levels of student-athletes.

  • Encourage academic achievement and model the importance of balancing athletics and education.

• Supervision and Safety:

  • Supervise athletes before, during, and after practices, matches, and travel.

  • Ensure the proper use, maintenance, and storage of equipment and facilities.

  • Follow all school and state athletic association safety policies and procedures.

• Communication:

  • Maintain open and professional communication with players, parents, administration, and staff.

  • Collaborate with the high school volleyball program to maintain program consistency and continuity.

  • Communicate schedule changes, expectations, and team information in a timely manner.

• Administrative Duties:

  • Complete all required documentation (rosters, travel forms, equipment inventories, etc.).

  • Report injuries, discipline issues, or other concerns promptly to the Activities Director or Principal.

  • Adhere to all district, conference, and state athletic association policies and guidelines.

Qualifications:

• Prior experience playing or coaching volleyball preferred.

• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

• Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor to student-athletes.

• Must meet all coaching certification and background check requirements as established by the Iowa Department of Education and the school district.
