Position Overview
The Varsity Assistant Football Coach supports the Head Coach in leading, developing, and maintaining a successful high school football program that emphasizes student-athlete growth, sportsmanship, and academic achievement. This position involves assisting in planning practices, developing game strategies, and fostering a positive, disciplined, and team-oriented culture within the program.
Duties and Responsibilities

Coaching & Player Development

Assist the Head Coach with planning, organizing, and conducting effective practices and conditioning sessions.

Provide position-specific instruction and skill development to student-athletes.

Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and character development both on and off the field.

Monitor and support academic progress and eligibility of players.

Game Preparation & Strategy

Help develop game plans, scout opponents, and review film for performance improvement.

Assist with game-day operations including setup, warm-ups, sideline management, and in-game adjustments.

Provide constructive feedback to players during games and practices.

Program Support & Administration

Support the Head Coach with communication to athletes, parents, and administration.

Enforce all school, conference, and state athletic policies and procedures.

Help manage equipment, uniforms, and inventory.

Participate in fundraising, community outreach, and program promotion activities.

Leadership & Mentorship

Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes, demonstrating integrity, respect, and professionalism.

Foster a culture of accountability, effort, and commitment.

Collaborate with other coaches and staff to ensure continuity across all levels of the football program.

Qualifications

Prior coaching or playing experience preferred (high school or higher level).

Strong understanding of football fundamentals, rules, and safety protocols.

Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.

Current CPR/First Aid certification and coaching authorization (as required by state guidelines).
