What are the responsibilities and job description for the Museum Assistant Manager position at Moore-Lindsay Historic House Museum?
The Assistant Manager will play a key role in the day-to-day operations of the museum. This position involves working closely with the Museum Manager to accomplish a wide variety of tasks, from visitor engagement and exhibit curation to event planning and archive management. This is a part-time position averaging 55 hours per month. Work shifts will take place primarily between Wednesday and Saturday, 11:00am–4:00pm, with occasional evening shifts.
Key Responsibilities Daily Operations Lead museum tours and respond to public inquiries in person, over the phone, and via email Manage the museum’s social media and email accounts Design promotional materials and create content for the museum’s monthly newsletter Maintain CCHS membership database and manage renewals Open and operate the museum independently in the Manager’s absence Programs & Events Assist in planning, coordinating, and staffing educational programs and special events Optional: Develop educational content or lead classes/workshops Exhibits & Research Curate one main exhibit and at least one micro-exhibit per year Respond to research requests and inquiries from the public Collections & Archives Accession and catalog artifacts and archival materials Conduct inventory and maintain accurate digital and physical records Qualifications Required Minimum of 2 years of college, including coursework in history, anthropology, museum studies, or archival studies — OR — 1 year of professional experience in a museum, archive, or library Self-motivated and capable of working unsupervised. Must be comfortable being the only staff person on site Availability to work a flexible schedule, including Saturdays, occasional evenings, and the second Wednesday of every month. Schedule will vary based on the needs of the museum; applicants must be prepared to adapt to a changing weekly schedule Must be extremely skilled in interacting with individuals and groups of people of all ages and from all walks of life, in person, over the phone, and in writing Basic computer skills, including Windows, Microsoft Office, & Google Suite Preferred Experience in customer service, education, or museum interpretation Familiarity with Norman and Cleveland County history Working knowledge of tools like Weebly, Mailchimp, Canva, Cognito Forms and Square Previous experience at a house museum or working in the public history field.
