What are the responsibilities and job description for the Forensic Engineer - Expert Witness position at Moore Engineering Services?
Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Forensic Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will apply your expertise in engineering to investigate and analyze primarily personal injury related defects. This position is specifically geared toward someone with at least 4 years experience with a PE license or qualified to sit for the PE exam upon hire. The role will start out shadowing another expert and eventually build into performing all of the tasks of an expert working mostly for attorneys in supporting both plaintiff and defense positions.
Other duties would include supporting our 3D scanning and printing services, modeling and some prototyping on specific projects. It will also include supporting the non-litigation support services offered by the company, specifically our specialty construction and safety testing services.
Duties
- Provide litigation support services to clients throughout the lifecycle of their engagement
- Perform inspections for litigation projects working with other experts on joint projects
- Draft reports for use in support of litigation clients
- Testify as needed in deposition and trial environments
- Expand business to include projects specific to your experience (depends on background and experience of candidate) such as structural, environmental, civil and mechanical failure analysis
Experience
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical or related engineering discipline
- At least 4 years of experience in design, construction or related field
- Either a PE license in NJ or nearby state with the ability to obtain reciprocal licensure or qualification necessary to sit for the PE shortly after hire
- Must have a working knowledge of general construction methods, materials and standard practice, familiarity with relevant construction codes and experience using consensus standards in engineering practice
- Proficiency in MS Office products
- Mastery of MS Excel and any CAD platform is required - if you are "not great" with excel, do not apply!
Must have a very good social presence; we are very experienced in litigation and will require someone with exceptional ability to speak in front of an audience and maintain their composure under extreme pressure (trial testimony). The interview process will include a "cross examination" portion that most typical engineers will fail.
Please note the salary is a starting salary and is intended to increase as book of business grows, likely within the first 6 months.
