Description: The Middle School Head Coach is responsible for leading, organizing, and developing a positive and competitive middle school athletic program. This role focuses on teaching fundamental skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and character while creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for student-athletes. The Head Coach works closely with the Athletic Director, school administration, staff, students, and families to support the overall mission of the school.
Job Summary:
- Plan, organize, and lead all practices, games, and team activities
- Teach sport-specific fundamentals, rules, and strategies appropriate for middle school athletes
- Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and respect at all times
- Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes growth, effort, and learning
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and team events
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents/guardians, school staff, and administration
- Ensure compliance with school, league, and district policies and procedures
- Maintain attendance, equipment inventories, and basic records as required
- Collaborate with assistant coaches (if applicable) and support their development
- Model professionalism and serve as a positive role model for students
Prioritize student safety, including proper warm-ups, conditioning, and injury protocols
Qualifications:
Experience coaching or participating in the sport at the youth, middle school, or higher level
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work positively with middle school-aged students
- Knowledge of age-appropriate training techniques and skill development
- Ability to manage team dynamics and support student growth both on and off the field
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to season)
- Required background checks and district/school clearances
- Teaching or educational experience preferred but not required
Working Conditions: - Practices and games occur after school hours and may include evenings and occasional weekends
- Work is performed indoors and/or outdoors, depending on the sport and season
- Physical activity is required, including standing, walking, running, and demonstrating skills
- Exposure to varying weather conditions for outdoor sports
- Seasonal position aligned with the athletic calendar
