Seasonal Visitor Services Associate

DESCRIPTION
This position provides support in the Montshire’s Visitor Services department during the busiest time of the museum’s year. On a daily basis, Visitor Service Associates contribute to an ecosystem of belonging and commerce in a front-facing service and retail environment. VSAs are self-motivated, responsible, and helpful pillars of the Montshire community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet, admit, and orient a variety of guests from all ages, backgrounds and cultures
- Respond attentively and appropriately to visitor questions and concerns
- Conduct sales appropriately and process payments efficiently and accurately
- Explain and promote Montshire membership sales and upgrades
- Proactively stock, maintain and tidy the museum store throughout workday
- Shift seamlessly between admission tasks and store tasks
- Support other VSAs and Museum departments as needed or requested
- Learn, support and adhere to all museum policies and safety protocols (injuries, fire evacuation, lost child, etc.)

- Able to learn from and contribute to the culture of an established team who are always learning
- Work collaboratively, ask questions, communicate clearly and respectfully
- Quickly learn policies with goal of confidently explaining policies
- Quickly learn workflows in multiple point of sales systems, collecting data correctly and handling payments–including cash–accurately
- Able to assist with safety procedures, to the best of personal ability
- Take initiative to find and complete tasks, but also take direction when given
- Seek help when path forward is unclear
- Have a sense of humor
- Be reliable and trustworthy
- Have transportation to and from the Montshire
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Family-friendly, interactive museum. Many days are fast paced and high energy.
- Frequent interruptions and redirection
- Near constant interaction with other humans
- Mix of repetitive, rote tasks and lively, unpredictable tasks
- Physical job requirements:
- Clarity of vision, particularly near vision
- Ability to hear and speak in a loud environment
- Stationary placement with long periods of standing, as well as movement over a wide range of motion–reaching, squatting, twisting, lifting, etc.
- Use of fine and gross motor skills, including clear handwriting
- Transport large boxes including carrying ~ 20lbs
- Approachable, supportive co-workers in a collaborative, person-centered environment
- Training in all aspects of work duties, including safety protocols
- Attention to health and safety for all staff

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS
This position requires no supervision of other staff.
TIME COMMITMENT
- Part-time, temporary, hourly position
- Flexible schedule including at least one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) each week.
- Shifts will vary from day to day, but are generally between 9am - 5pm.
- Average of 4 shifts a week, but may vary from week to week
SALARY AND BENEFITS
$17.00/hour, non-exempt, non-benefited.
