The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct, hands-on care to residents in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility. CNAs assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), support residents’ comfort and safety, and work under the supervision of licensed nursing staff to ensure high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities

Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding

Help residents with mobility and transfers (e.g., using gait belts, lifts, wheelchairs)

Take and record vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure

Observe and report changes in residents’ condition to nurses

Provide emotional support and companionship to residents

Maintain a clean and safe environment, including making beds and organizing rooms

Assist with meal service and monitor food and fluid intake

Follow infection control protocols and safety procedures

Qualifications

Active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the Iowa

High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
