WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated professional to join our team as a Principal Administrative Aide. The ideal candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, and adaptability in a dynamic law enforcement environment. The successful applicant will possess exceptional communication and analytical skills, a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality, and the ability to collaborate effectively with leadership, staff, and external partners.

A strong background in executive-level administrative support, records and data management, and technology-driven office operations will support success in this role. Experience in government or public safety administration is highly desirable.

What You'll Be Doing

The Principal Administrative Aide will provide administrative support to the Civil/Criminal Division operations and other Sheriff’s Office division as needed.

This position will include a variety of general office support tasks. The ability to effectively deal with people in a positive and courteous manner will be a large part of the employee's success. This important responsibility includes communicating with:

  • the public at large
  • Sheriff's Office employees
  • the courts (both within and outside the jurisdiction)
  • attorneys
  • other officers of the court

Additionally, one of the primary responsibilities of this position is performing front desk/receptionist duties. These responsibilities include receiving incoming phone calls from the general public; redirecting calls to the appropriate person(s) or sections within the office; greeting visitors to the Sheriff's Office; receiving court process for service; and handling currency and other financial documents. As such, the employee will be required to have a basic understanding of the operations of all sections within the Sheriff's Office.

  • Warrant data validations within the Civil/Criminal Division
  • Data entry for the Civil Section and Criminal Section
  • Variety of general office support tasks
  • Communicating with the public at large, Sheriff’s Office employees, the courts, attorneys, other officers of the court

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible office support experience.
  • Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted.
  • Please note: The selected applicant will be required to successfully complete a background investigation and a pre-employment Medical History Form to assess ability to safely perform the essential duties of the role prior to appointment.

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

  • Experience providing quality customer service to the general public.
  • Experience using personal computers and applications, including databases and law enforcement computer applications.
  • Experience in handling multiple tasks in a time sensitive environment.
  • Experience with work requiring a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Telephone and oral communication experience.

Montgomery County Ethics Law: Except as provided by law or regulation, the County's "Public Employees" (which does not include employees of the Sheriff's office) are subject to the County's ethics law including the requirements to obtain advanced approval of any outside employment and the prohibitions on certain outside employment. The outside employment requirements of the ethics law can be found at 19A-12 of the County Code. Additional information about outside employment can be obtained from the Ethics Commission website.
