The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is located at 2 West Lafayette Street, Norristown, PA 19401. This position requires travel to locations throughout Montgomery County, PA.
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday, 194 days/year, Part-Time or Full-Time
Part-time schedule: 4-6 hours/day (morning, mid-day, and afternoon routes)
Full-time schedule: 7.5 hours/day (full-time Van Drivers may be required to spend a portion of their day in a classroom, supporting our student facing programs)
Hourly Rate
Starting at $24.04/hour

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid PA Drivers' License
- Three (3) years of professional driving experience and a clean MVR (Motor Vehicle Record)
- Knowledge of safety regulations
- Able to operate a van and drive all posted routes, as well as perform all physical duties and carry out other responsibilities as assigned
- Complies with MCIU drug and alcohol policy and random drug-testing program.
- Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.
- Responsibilities include operating a school van in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with all Federal and State DOT regulations
- Follow safety regulations and traffic laws
- Maintain student order and discipline in accordance with MCIU guidelines and policies
- Maps out the most efficient routes for each student using GPS
- Perform all pre and post trip vehicle inspections
- Follow routes as directed by Program Administrator Operations
- Maintain route log and complete monthly mileage logs
- Complete transportation access logs
- Communicate with student's parent/guardian about assigned route
- Keep van clean and fueled
- Communicate repair needs to transportation office when needed
- Assist children in and out of the van and their securements, proper utilization of equipment (e.g. car seats, etc.), and/or handling/securing wheelchairs
- Maintain professional interactions with all stakeholders
- Reports all accidents and completes required reports
- Assists when called upon with any emergency
- Attends all required training as assigned by the Supervisor
- Immediately notifies Supervisor of any traffic violations incurred while employed
- Clerical tasks including, but not limited to, data entry, processing and filing paperwork, preparing documents, and updating reports. Coordinate and manage routes as needed.
- Present a positive image of the Intermediate Unit, its programs and services.
- Provide additional student and/or classroom support as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Program Administrator.
