The salary range above represents this position’s earning potential. The anticipated hiring range for this position will be $70,556 (minimum) - $103,469 (maximum) based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Who We Are Looking For

The African American Health Program (AAHP) is currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and mission-driven Program Specialist II (Health Specialist) to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a health professional who is passionate about health equity, community engagement, and culturally responsive service delivery. The ideal candidate will be energized by designing and implementing programs that improve health outcomes for Black residents in Montgomery County.

What You'll Be Doing

The Program Specialist II – Health Specialist is essential to advancing AAHP’s mission by translating strategic priorities into community-based health initiatives. The role ensures culturally responsive outreach, supports program evaluation, and strengthens collaboration between County staff, contractors, and community partners to reduce health disparities and improve health outcomes.

This Program Specialist will support the AAHP Program Management team to coordinate services in these areas.

Core Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and support delivery of AAHP health initiatives in chronic diseases, maternal health, behavioral and mental health, men's health, and aging.
  • Conduct outreach and build partnerships to promote awareness of services.
  • Apply understanding of social and community factors that affect health to make screenings and health education more accessible and relevant.
  • Collect and report data to support evaluation and continuous improvement if program activities.
  • Collaborate with vendors, contractors and partners to align activities with County priorities.

This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office.

Some program activities, community events, or outreach sessions may take place during evening or weekend hours.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Two (2) years of professional experience planning and coordinating community health programs that addresses disparities in the black community (African American, African, or Caribbean Community), focused on health equity, social determinants of health (SDOH), community engagement, culturally responsive service delivery, and implementing programs that improve health outcomes.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree .

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted.

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

The applications of those individuals meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent, relevancy of training, and experience in the following areas:

  • Experience with collecting, organizing, or evaluating data in your work such as for data surveys or reporting
  • Experience using systems tools, frameworks and solutions that address prevention, public health, and social determinants of health across diverse communities .
  • Experience and working knowledge of health principles and a demonstrated commitment to advancing health equity through community-based approaches.
  • Coordinate health programs focused on aging, chronic disease, maternal health, and/or mental wellness.
