Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Nursing Instructor to inspire and educate the next generation of healthcare professionals. In this role, you will deliver engaging classroom instruction, supervise clinical practice, and develop innovative curricula that meet educational standards and industry needs. Your expertise will help students build essential nursing skills, understand medical terminology, and apply patient care principles across diverse healthcare settings. Duties

  • Deliver comprehensive nursing courses utilizing modern learning technologies such as Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Blackboard to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Supervise clinical rotations in teaching hospitals, ensuring students gain hands-on experience in patient care, acute care, ICU, pediatrics, and senior care environments.
  • Develop, review, and update curricula aligned with accreditation standards, educational compliance regulations, and current healthcare practices.
  • Guide students in creating care plans, documentation review, and working with diverse patient populations including primary care and specialized units like critical care or pediatric settings.
  • Assess student performance through exams, practical demonstrations, and clinical evaluations; provide constructive feedback to support their professional growth.
  • Conduct research activities related to healthcare education or nursing practice to contribute to academic excellence and evidence-based teaching methods.
  • Collaborate with faculty colleagues on program development, accreditation processes, and continuous improvement initiatives within higher education nursing programs.

Experience

  • Proven supervising experience in clinical or educational settings within hospitals or healthcare facilities.
  • Extensive classroom experience teaching adult learners in higher education or college faculty roles specializing in nursing or healthcare education.
  • Strong background in nursing practice with expertise in patient care across various specialties such as ICU, pediatrics, primary care, or senior care.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS), Blackboard, and other learning technology platforms for course delivery and student tracking.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, documentation review processes, and educational compliance standards governing healthcare training programs.
  • Experience developing curricula that incorporate research findings, healthcare regulations, and innovative teaching strategies.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds while fostering a supportive learning environment that encourages critical thinking and professional development.

Expected Work Hours:

Faculty are required to be on campus, in a clinical setting, or a combination of both for a minimum of 30 hours per week, with certain duties and responsibilities requiring more than 30 hours at various times during the academic term. The remaining 10 hours of the standard 40-hour work week may be completed either on campus or at another approved location and should be dedicated to instructional preparation and support activities, including course development, grading, attendance, student communication, instructional planning, clinical preparation, reporting, and activities supporting student success, program compliance, and completion.

Qualifications & Degree Requirements

  • Hold an active, unencumbered license or multistate licensure privilege to practice as a registered nurse in NC.
  • Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution, or Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution with a plan to earn a Master’s degree within 5 years of initial full-time employment is required.
  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience as a registered nurse.
  • Prior to or within 3 years of employment, must have education in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to faculty assignment. This education may be demonstrated by one of the following:
  • Completion of 45 contact hours of Board-approved continuing education courses.
  • Completion of a certificate program in nursing education
  • Nine semester hours of graduate course work in adult learning and learning principles
  • National certification in nursing education.
  • Documentation of completion of structured, individualized development activities of at least 45 contact hours approved by the Board of Nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support Credential (CPR)
  • A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and the ability to collaborate well with others are required.
  • Must provide official transcripts from a regionally accredited institution, a copy of the RN license, and a resume.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience in a community college nursing program is preferred.
  • CPR Instructor Certification preferred.
