Job Summary

The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for managing, delegating, coordinating and providing nursing care through utilization of the nursing process. The above is accomplished with the utilization of effective communication skills with patients, significant others and members of the multidisciplinary health care team. Within the scope of practice assumes responsibility, as necessary, for the assessment, treatment and care of patients of all ages (neonate to geriatric). Displays an understanding of the developmental needs of the patient when planning and implementing treatment. Displays competency in obtaining information and interpreting the patient's behavior based upon an understanding of the patients cognitive, biopsychosocial and religious cultural aging processes. The Registered Nurse is accountable for maintaining his/her clinical competence in reaching the defined standards of care for the area of nursing practice.

Essential Functions
  • JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: Demonstrates the required job specific technical/professional knowledge, skills and abilities. * 1. Systematically provides nursing care to patients within the framework of the nursing process and established standards of practice. 2. Integrates principles of patient safety in the provision of direct nursing care and medication management. 3. Adheres to established system-wide communication standards and processes. 4. Participates in designated forums which address patient care, patient education, policy and procedures, safety and clinical outcomes. 5. Demonstrates accountability for maintaining and improving professional knowledge and skill related to the area of practice. • Document on addendum age specific competency. Demonstrates positive communication with people of different cultures, values and beliefs. 3. Demonstrates the ability to acknowledge customer concerns and takes corrective action. 4. APPEARANCE “I will dress in a manner that reflects a professional and positive image of the hospital at all times”  Maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance which adheres to the hospital dress code policy.  Promote and adhere to Nyack Hospital's guidelines regarding a safe and clean work environment for employees, patients, families and visitors. RESPONSIVENESS “I will demonstrate the ability to provide timely feedback and communication to patients, visitors, and coworkers.” • Respond to patient call lights and ask if I can assist. (No Pass Zone). • Respond empathetically. • Apologize for delays and concerns. EXCELLENCE IN SERVICE “I will strive to ‘do my best everyday’ in exceeding customer expectations.” • Anticipate and address my patients’, families and visitors needs. • Avoid negativity and exhibit a “can-do” attitude. • “Manage up” fellow employees, physicians, departments, and the organization, to increase patient confidence both internally and in the community. • Exit elevators to accommodate our patients’ first. • Acknowledge people in the hallway by smiling and making eye contact. • Help lost guests and new employees by escorting them to their destination.

Qualifications
  • Associate Degree Required or
  • Bachelor Degree Preferred
  • Experience: 1 year Med/Surg experience preferred National Certification in area of practice preferred. On Call required for the following areas: OR, PACU, and Cath Lab For transfer requirements, please refer to the NYSNA CBA
  • Registered Nurse New York - New York State Board of Nursing Required
  • BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association Required
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association Required for the following areas: ED, SICU, MICU, 3 Doctors, Cath Lab, Endo, Labor & Delivery, Nursing Radiology, and SDS within 6 months of hire/transfer; PACU (within 3 months of hire/transfer)
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association Required for the following areas: ED, Nursing Radiology, and SDS (within 6 months of hire/transfer); PACU (within 3 months of hire/transfer
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program - American Heart Association Required for the following areas: Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby, and NICU withing 6 months of hire
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certificate Chemotherapy Biotherapy Fundamentals of Administration - Oncology Nursing Society Required for the Infusion Center Required
