About the Role

Montecito Bank & Trust is seeking a full-time Senior Commercial Banking Officer to join the team in our Commercial Lending Group. As a Senior Commercial Banking Officer, you will deliver a World Class Experience by providing excellent customer service to all internal and external customers. The Senior Commercial Banking Officer with primary sales and marketing is responsible for developing, managing, and growing a sound and profitable loan portfolio over a sustained period of time. Must demonstrate an ability to identify opportunities and underwrite proposals from a moderate to complex base of commercial & industrial clients and prospects. The Senior Commercial Banking Officer is expected to spend 50-65% of available time on business development activity, building a pipeline, qualifying prospects, expanding relationships, and retaining customers. By utilizing strong product and market knowledge gained from related work experience, the incumbent is comfortable consulting with small to medium sized businesses, non-profit organizations and high net worth individuals. Overall responsibility for credit quality and production growth for the team will reside with the Senior Commercial Banking Officer. The Senior Commercial Banking Officer must provide a World Class Customer Experience while partnering with the Loan Team Leaders, Bank Branch Managers and the Wealth Management Group. You will be located in Montecito, CA with the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, and travel throughout the Bank’s footprint when necessary (Santa Maria to Thousand Oaks).

What We’re Looking For

  • A college degree, preferably in business-related field, or equivalent work experience required.
  • 5-8 years of business banking experience, or similar experience, required.
  • Experience in managing a commercial loan portfolio, which is anticipated to grow to over 20-40 relationships and in excess of $100 million, preferred.
  • The ability to be registered as a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) with the National Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLSR), under the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (SAFE ACT), and maintain the registration as required. These standards include, among other things, passing a criminal background check and a satisfactory credit report obtained from a consumer reporting agency.
  • Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.

Your Responsibilities

The essential functions of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Partners with the Branch Managers to understand the client’s needs and apply the broad range of Montecito Bank & Trust’s financing and product solutions to meet their needs. 
  • Takes applications, gather the necessary documentation, underwrite the facility, and see the transaction through to closing.
  • Provides back up to the CLG designated SBA Officer or to assist when volumes are too high for one person to process in a timely manner.
  • Develops loan business to middle market clients, with familiarity in financing owner-occupied properties and an understanding of trusts/estates.
  • Actively calls on customers and prospects, develops referral sources and contacts, and innovatively structures proposals with proper covenants.
  • Presents and discusses proposals to senior management and to loan committee to obtain expressions of interest and formal loan commitments
  • Ensures timely monitoring, renewal, payment and early classification of problematic credits to maintain ongoing soundness of the loan portfolio.
  • Represents major lines of the company to the customer base and must be fully knowledgeable and conversant about varied financing options, cash management and other products and services in order to advise customers to obtain a full array of the bank’s services.

Individual pay is based on a multitude of factors, including candidate’s experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform in the position and pay equity.
