About the Role
Montecito Bank & Trust is seeking a full-time Business Banking Relationship Manager to join the team in our Business Banking department. As a Business Banking Relationship Manager, you will deliver a World Class Experience by providing excellent customer service to all internal and external customers. Relationship Managers play a pivotal role in helping our business clients achieve their financial goals. You will have access to a set of products and solutions to better serve your business clients today and into the future. Strong client relationships are based on trust, assessing, and attending to clients’ banking needs, obtaining, and processing client and account information, advising clients on available deposit and loan products and services, and recommending financial solutions based on each client’s unique goals and needs. Relationship Managers are the primary advisor for our business clients and are responsible for building, developing, and managing new and existing relationships with business clients and delivering financial expertise and client-centric solutions that build strong, long-term relationships. You will be located in Santa Maria, CA with the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, and travel throughout the Bank’s northern footprint when necessary (Santa Maria to Goleta).
What We’re Looking For
- A college degree, preferably in business-related field, or equivalent work experience required.
- 5-8 years of business banking experience, or similar experience, required.
- The ability to be registered as a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) with the National Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLSR), under the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (SAFE ACT), and maintain the registration as required. These standards include, among other things, passing a criminal background check and a satisfactory credit report obtained from a consumer reporting agency.
- Broad knowledge of bank products and services that results in successfully identifying appropriate opportunities to sell the bank’s products.
- Strong knowledge of Business Banking credit policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of cash flow management and business credit underwriting with commercial credit training preferred.
Your Responsibilities
The essential functions of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Partner with the Branch Managers to understand the client’s needs and apply the broad range of Montecito Bank & Trust’s financing and product solutions to meet their needs.
- Take applications, gather the necessary documentation, underwrite the facility, and see the transaction through to closing.
- Actively call on customers and prospects, develop referral sources and contacts, and innovatively structure proposals with proper covenants.
- Ensure timely monitoring, renewal, payment, and early classification of problematic credits to maintain ongoing soundness of the loan portfolio.
- Work closely with the branches to assure they remain aware of the progress and the underwriting decision.
- Actively call on customers and prospect to develop and expand Montecito Bank & Trust’s relationships. Develop referral sources and contacts.
- Attend meetings, business development goals from financial perspective as well as focusing on retention of highly valued clients.
- Assist lending staff to underwrite more complex loan requests.

Individual pay is based on a multitude of factors, including candidate’s experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform in the position and pay equity.
