Housed in the Liberal Studies program, the Global Health minor allows students to develop an interdisciplinary understanding of health issues and health care in a global context. Through studying a broad range range of courses, this minor will be provided with a solid foundation in social, cultural, epidemiological, environmental, and nutritional determinants of health, and will explore the challenges that require global health solutions. The Liberal Studies Program seeks pool applications for potential instructors for Global Health courses such as LS 104: Intro to Global Health. These courses are regularly taught in the fall and spring semesters.

Position Details

General Statement

Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non-tenurable level instruction and/or related functions. Instructors are needed to teach classes depending upon need and available funding.

Applications are accepted on a continual basis (unless otherwise indicated) and will be maintained in pool for two years. After two years, candidates will be notified to re-submit materials for continued consideration.

The department or program search committees or hiring authority will review and evaluate the submitted application materials. Applicants will be notified if their application is being retained in the non-tenure track faculty hiring pool.

Appointments are on a part-time basis and vary in duration, a couple weeks, a semester or an academic year, depending on the specific needs of the department/program. Salary is dependent on number of courses taught and duration.

We seek individuals who work professionally and effectively with diverse individuals, possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University.

Duties and Responsibilities

We aim to attract applicants who can teach in a diverse University community and have demonstrated ability in helping students from diverse backgrounds succeed.

Instructors Typically Will

  • Design and/or deliver Global Health courses, as assigned.
  • If teaching online, complete specialized online training and regularly attend online workshops.
  • Assist with curriculum and/or course development, when applicable.
  • Collaborate with other faculty to ensure consistent standards across courses.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and/or workshops when called.
  • Participate in program and university assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Hold appropriate office hours/ availability for student questions and concerns.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in field related to global health.

  • Demonstrated experience teaching interdisciplinary courses
  • Demonstrated knowledge of college student development
  • Terminal degree in field related to global health
  • Demonstrated commitment to student, faculty, and staff diversity.

  • Any position less than .5 FTE is not represented by the Union and is not required to pay dues.

Serving over 200 students, the Liberal Studies Program cultivates intellectual and ethical judgment; prepares students for lives of civic engagement, social responsibility and leadership; integrates learning from different sources; develops skills to succeed in an increasingly global and diverse society; and helps students deal effectively with complexity and ambiguity.

The Department

The Global Health minor allows students to develop an interdisciplinary understanding of health issues and health care in a global context. The minor provides a solid foundation in social, cultural, epidemiological, environmental and nutritional determinants of health, and will explore the challenges that require global health solutions. Students will investigate the health implications of globalization, as well as have the option for an engagement experience, both of which contribute to better understanding the determinants of health issues around the world.
